Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
