Net Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
