Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world may be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen betting on web poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha high and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
