NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
