Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
