NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
