Online Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While participating in online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money games?
