Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
